Note from Bob – November 9, 2011

This past weekend’s Healthy Church Initiative has provided Schweitzer five prescriptions in the Consultation Report we received. The prescriptions are available on our website www.schweitzerumc.org with paper copies provided at the Outreach Center Reception Desk and at Guest Services in the foyer. Please read, think, pray, and discuss these prescriptions during these weeks leading up to our Church Conference (December 4, 2:00pm) where we will vote by secret ballot to accept or reject the prescriptions as the vision we adopt in 2012 and beyond.

Town Hall Meetings will be held Sunday, November 13, 2:00pm; Saturday, November 19, 10:00am and Wednesday, November 30, 6:30pm as an opportunity for you to bring your comments and questions. Kerry Randolph, Gerry Lee and Wayne Thompson, members of our Church Council, will serve as facilitators at these gatherings. You are invited and encouraged to attend any or all of the Town Hall Meetings.

Thursday Night is prayer night at Schweitzer. The House of Prayer is an opportunity for you to join others at Schweitzer to receive guidance in growing in your prayer life as well as build the culture of prayer as a church. Come join others for prayer tomorrow, 6:30pm.

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is the story of Mary and Martha. I encourage you regardless of how busy your day is to find some moments to slow down and read Luke 10: 38-42. Once you do, you’ll understand why I am encouraging you to take a time out. Join me Sunday in worship as we talk about how we can be more like Mary in a Martha World. One more note about this Sunday: We are experiencing a sewage problem that has created some unexpected but necessary construction between the Sanctuary/Foyer and Cather Hall. As you find navigation in this area a bit more challenging this weekend, thank you for your patience and understanding.

We continue to receive financial commitments for the year 2012 from the congregation. If you have not yet made a commitment to Schweitzer, will you return during the next week a commitment card to the church? Your commitment of consistent giving helps us to plan ministry effectively and exercise fiscal responsibly. More importantly, practicing consistent generosity strengthens your own walk as disciple of Jesus Christ.

I am thinking and praying about the message series I will preach right after the first of the year. As we move into 2012, what’s on your mind? What topic/issue would you like me to consider addressing from a faith perspective? Please hit reply to this email. I would love to hear from you.

Have a great rest of the week!
